Gold Coast Trip 2011 Day 01

12 Sept 2011:

As I write this the first day of our family holiday to the Gold Coast is coming to a close. Sharon, Maddi and Kath have gone to the shops to get some food supplies for dinner tonight as well as breakfast and lunch tomorrow. I am sitting in our room at Harbour Side Resort Apartments looking after a sleeping Molly.

We set out from home this morning at 8:40am following Steve and Kathe Currie and their daughter Elianna and headed nrth from our home near Coffs Harbour. It was actually a nice drive with our first stop around half an hour after starting at  Grafton to top the fuel tanks up in the cars. After our quick refuel we were off again and we headed north through some of the best scenery on the New South Wales Mid North Coast.

We hit Ballina at around 11:30am and continued north for another 15 - 20 minutes until we reached Macadamia Castle and decided to stop for a rest and toilet  break. We ended up staying for amost an hour as we decided to have some lunch. Sharon had a stack of 2 pancakes with maple syrup and ice cream which looked pretty nice and I'll admit I started doubting my choice of meal. Then my lunch arrived. The Castle Burger. A 190g beef and macadamia pattie with lettuce, tomato, caramalised onion, beetroot with homemade tomato relish and a creamy aioli sace on turkish bread and a serving of chips This burger was rather large and almost broke Rule# 2, never eat anything bigger than your head. It was an awesome burger, and the aioli sauce was to die for. I gave Sharon a taste of the aioli sauce and said that we have to stop there on our way back to see if they sell bottles of it.

After a rather tasty lunch we set off for the second half of our road trip north, once again passing through some really great countryside. We finally arrived at our destination at 2:15pm, a steady 6 hour drive, and we pulled into Harbour Side Resort. We are only 10 minutes away from Seaworld, which is our first destination tomorrow. I walked down to the front of the resort this afternoon and I could see Seaworld just across the bay. I'm really looking forward to going tomorrow. It'll be a test to see how well Molly can handle large crowds and the noise.

Right now it's time to relax, put Molly to bed and watch X Factor.
